Week 12 – Information

Howdy there readers! I know, I missed doing an update last week. Nothing to say about that except that I forgot to do it. But luckily it didn’t hurt my grade too much (thankfully)! But that just means we have a lot to share and catch up on! So, let’s go into it!

AI: The 5th member of the group

Since we are in a computer science degree, the topic of AI and other AI aspects is always something that comes up. Are we going to use it? Are we using it to build the app? How much does it cost? . . . All these questions are valid but here are some of the answers.

Are we going to use it . . . yes! But not in the way you think. No, we are not using AI to help build the app (the school has a very hardcore policy on that). We are using it in a way that we are creating something that will actually be beneficial to the app and end users. Without going into too many details (since this is something that I am only assisting with) it is going to help with data analytics. Meaning, all the data that we have, it will be able to read it properly and give more details about it as well. So, stay tune to that.

The cost . . . well, that is hard to say. AI uses something called Tokens and Tokens are used when you use and AI. There are many models out there but here is an example. Say you use a chat bot that is 100% AI through OpenAI. You ask it a simple question like “How many bananas do I need to use in banana bread?” That question along uses input tokens and that amount could range from 0-1000. Now, since you are expected to get an answer, it will then use output tokens and depending on the answer, it can easily reach up to 10,000 tokens. So yeah, it’s hard to give a number.

New: Shiny feature made its way

Throughout this development, we had a very open mind on what features we wanted to input. We had a good amount of what we wanted to work on as well. So, with that, we then were able to get our current features up to 80% complete and then I went and added a new on. Opps but what are you going to do. Luckily, this feature is 100% strictly just data shown. That meaning, it is designed to only show data and not really do anything besides that. So there is that.

Another thing that is going to be added is something for us devs. Something that will help us with data management and user insight with some charts and logs! This new feature will be under some major security so nothing more to say on that.

Testers: Yes, more

This month, our goal is to have as many testers as we can with everyone getting testers to participate. Since we have a lot of features, each member will showcase their own work to the testers. So, if I worked on ABC features, I am only going to get testers to help with ABC features. Not have them work on XYZ (unless needed). But, with that being said, we are also going to be giving some testers the freedom to use the app without the need of us to be watching them. They will still be messing around with fake data, but feedback is the most important part of this testing phase.

Next Steps

This week, we also met with our professor. Provided feedback on what we worked on and what we plan to keep working on. He also asked us a very important question. And what is where do we want this app to be by the end of the month? I gave an answer, and everyone seemed to be good with it. We would love to have all of our enchantment changes done to the code. Then, we want to change from fake data to live-limit data based on the APIs we are using. So yeah. Some big steps and we are on our way to that

That is all! Hopefully I don’t forget next week and can give you all a big update! Till then!!!
