Week 4 – Month 1 – Planning ended; Coding Starts

And just like that, month one has come to an end, and we shift our focus to more coding. We luckily have been very successful in getting some of our code going already . . . but now, we are stop with the paperwork and get down to business. I am stoked to get this app going and seeing its advancements. We also had the chance to meet with our professor as a team and got some very useful insight in what is to come these next few months.

Meetings: We learned so new tricks

As I stated before, we met with our professor as a team the other day. They provided us with information about how milestones are going to happen moving forward. We will be assigned a progressor during the rest of our development that we will engage with and meet with. During these meetings, we have to inform them of what we have done, what we still need to work on, and what we need to pull away from. It’s to ensure that we have enough to do for the remaining part of our capstone. Also, to ensure that we are also not over doing it.

Also, during these meetings, we will also have to ensure we keep our Jira board and documentation updated. These are going to be some core things our future professors are going to be looking at. Like I said last week, I have having to track everything I do but I also fully understand the need for it.

Mobile App?: The short-lived feature

As my team and I have met over this month, we have been settings this up for web and mobile app development. The web app and primary server are up and running like a smooth machine. The web app already has several things implemented into it. Like, weeks ahead of schedule which is a good thing. This gives us the chance to focus more on “fine tuning” our features then actually having to develop them.

Now going back to the mobile app. Yes, we have everything setup to do the mobile app development. We have the technology in place, the files ready to go, and resources already gathered to develop it. However, after taking with the team, we have come to an agreement. We are going to stop the mobile app development and focus more on the web app. Luckily; our professor was okay with this. This also give us more resources to develop the web app even further. But . . . we do have a plan for mobile access . . . stay tune for that!

More Visuals: Updates to the UI and design

Over the first few weeks of this project, we develop a design document and wireframe that showcases our app. We created a low-fi and high-fi design for the web app. After doing some deployment already and seeing on how data is being shown, we had to make some changes to the layout. With the amount of data being display, we had to adjust some of our core “display” panels for the data. The way we had it before, there would have been a lot of empty space which didn’t look good. The way we have it now, it actually gives us a chance to add more things if we need to. Which is good since we have already decided more B-features we want to add.

Next Steps: Planning and Coding

Now since we are out of the initial planning phase, we go into even MORE planning phases . . . but not really. We have to do the tracking we move forward and plan out what we have to do each week. Which after giving it some thought, isn’t a bad idea. This way, we have a clear path of what we want to do, who has to do it, and when everything should be completed. This will, I hope, ensure that we don’t get “burnt-out” of coding over these next few months.

Already! That is it for this week’s update of the “Timmy’s Capstone Chronicles.” This week was a bit light on details, but I hope next week, I will have a lot more information to share!
